The Costa Calida offers the diner a good choice of cuisine to excite the pallette, from the traditional Spanish dishes such as Paella best enjoyed with a glass of chilled white wine in a typical Spanish cheringuito (beach bar), to the more cosmopolitan tastes of the trendy urban restaurants.
However, probably the best way to sample the flavours of this part of Spain are by trying the various tapas dishes, available in most local Spanish bars.
- Rincón de Pepe (Apósteles, 34 Murcia, Tel: 968 212 239) - apparently Murcia's most famous tapas restaurant. Always packed (which is a good sign) service can often be a little hectic, but never slow! For dessert try the Paparajotes, a Murcian delicacy made with the leaves of lemon trees.
- Restaurante El Sordo (C/ Alhorbona s/n 30610 Ricote Murcia Tel: 968 697 209) - Set in the Ricote Valeey, about 20 minutes drive from Murcia, this is an extremely popular restaurant and you are advised to book ahead. El Sordo prides itself on its generous portions and diners rarely find their way to the desert menu! In addition the house wine is grown and produced locally.
- Amapola Restaurant (at Hyatt Regency La Manga, Cartagena) - treat yourself to a little luxury by enjoying some of the finest mediterranean cuisine, prepared by the skilled chefs at La Manga's Hyatt Regency. The signature restaurant is one of several within the La Manga complex. View the website for further information.
- Monteagudo ( Av. Constitución, 93,
Monteagudo.
Tel: 968 850 064) -This restaurant is well worth the 6km. drive from Murcia (along the motorway). Attractive decor, friendly and professional service, a very good wine list with some interesting local wines and, most importantly, excellent food. Traditional dishes given a modern touch and made with first class local produce.
