JAMES Hewitt is quitting Britain to open a restaurant in Spain - but even his own family fear it will be a financial disaster.
The 47-year-old royal love rat has bought a rundown building in Marbella which he hopes to turn into a five-star joint for the rich and famous.
But relatives are worried the venture will go the same way as his previous business flops and he will be skint.
A family friend said: "As much as they love James, everyone knows his business ventures always fail.
"He's already tried unsuccessfully running a riding stables and investing in a golf driving range, but nothing ever works.
"James reckons there is an opening in the market in Marbella for a classy restaurant. He said most are for the ham, eggs and chips brigade. He is convinced he's on to a winner but his family are concerned he will end up in another total mess, only this time he will be penniless in a foreign country."
Princess Diana's former lover Hewitt lost Ģ30,000 when a golf range he opened in East London went bust in 1994. And his Devon riding stables collapsed. He has just resolved a dispute with the Inland Revenue over an alleged unpaid Ģ2.7million tax bill. He was allowed to pay only Ģ106,000 but had to remortgage his flat in Kensington, West London.
Hewitt will rent out the home after he leaves for Spain next week.
The ex-army officer's spokesman Michael Coleman said: "You sound like you've done a lot of research so there's no need for me to say anything."
